From the Portland Japanese Gardens

Sophie's taking a picture of some tourists who asked and I'm taking a picture of a picture (how sneaky I be!).  Had quite a few good shots out of that session but felt impelled to share this one!

Goodnight,

Aslynn

Sophie's Place

This evening I went to visit Sophie. Took my camera equipment mainly to lend her my long/macro lens. After helping her cut card stock I pulled out my camera and wandered about the apartment letting my eyes lead the way. Here's a little of what I saw.

Cambridge in Colour

A long, long time ago I stumbled upon this web site which has pictures I could only dream of taking!

http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/

The site not only has some marvelous pictures (that make me drool and *almost* want to become a professional) but also has a number of incredibly useful tutorials including one on polarizing lenses which was the motivation for me purchasing on (which I always use). Take a look see and share anything of particular significance or interest that you find therein.

Enjoy,

Aslynn

The Seeming Randomness of Flickr

Here is another image from my photo shoot in the park recently. It's also one of a handful from that day that I've posted to my Flickr photostream. Of all of the images, some of them very dynamic and colorful, this image has consistently garnered the most views. I'm not sure why that is. I have some ideas. Why do YOU think this photo is proving to be so popular?

Have an excellent Wednesday, all. :)

Playing in the Park

Just over a week ago I had the opportunity to shoot some nature-based portraiture at a park near my home. While technically not in Portland, this park is in nearby Hillsboro, OR, and it turned out to be a perfect setting with lots of wonderful elements and textures to work with.

I personally love the way the wind is blowing playfully with Keenan's hair in this shot. I also love the texture of the rock behind her.

I will probably post a few more of my favorite shots from this session in the coming days. I welcome feedback and comments!

Taking photographs of home improvement projects has been something I've been doing for years as you can see in today's successful accomplishment: finishing the grouting in the guest bathroom. While personal and probably not interesting to many it's an example of photography for historical purposes. Personally, taking pictures of projects gives me not only a sense of accomplishment but also a way to learn. I should admit after finishing I'm a bit impatient and just want to relax so I stick mainly to framing a decent shot and bang, bang, bang, I've got my shots. What do you think I can do in the future to make these shots more useful for my own purposes as well as interesting for the viewing of others? Any comments are appreciated! Aslynn

Welcome to the PDX Photo Club

Welcome to the PDX Photo Club!  My name’s Aslynn and I’m an amateur photographer who’s been dinking with cameras since I was twelve or so.  I recently decided to become more serious about photography and as an extension of that wanted to create a group of like minded amateurs from the Portland, Oregon area together.  Currently that’s just two people, myself and my best friend Sophie, but with the right amount of TLC I hope it grows to half a dozen to a dozen or so.  The name of this blog and the group, “PDX Photo Club” is a placeholder or work in progress.  Suggestions for names are welcome!

What is the purpose of the blog?

It’s a place to share experiences, experiments, learnings, and most of all pictures!  As such it will serve as a centralized location for portfolio’s on Flickr, Picasa, and other web albums.  As we grow we hope to plan events, shoots, and even make ourselves available to take photographs of you!

Cheers and salutations,

Aslynn
